Accomplishments
Retired from a career of increasing accomplishments and responsibility over almost 40 years of government service with the Social Security Administration, Jim has developed acumen as a collaborative problem solver with a list of achievements in building and leading consensus for various programs providing better government and service to our communities. Leading to his appointment as a local District Office Field Office Manager. He effectively filled a series of roles in project management. His initial job meeting and dealing face to face with individuals at an often traumatic time in their lives provided him with training and an ability to listen to folks coming to him as the embodiment of necessary government programs, advising them on a course of action, and implementing what was called for under each individuals circumstances.
Shortly after starting work in the local field office that provided services to the Golden Valley community he was chosen by his co-workers as their representative in handling employee issues with AFGE (the American Federation of Government Employees) local 3129. His successful leadership and negotiation led to his selection as the union Chief Steward led to his representation of employees at offices throughout Minnesota and into northwest Wisconsin as well as eastern North and South Dakota. In these positions be became increasingly adept at interest based bargaining (IBB) as well as other methods of critical decision-making. IBB is a method of using respectful collaboration and consensus to craft solutions identifying stakeholders and their interests, working through a defined process within fiscal restraints to achieve consensus. At this level he was chosen to negotiation teams at a regional and national level before his selection by the agency to address priority issues as part of an area wide cadre dealing with processing of priority claims, then to serving in various management positions.
